Miss Northern States Preliminary Pageant

Miss Northern States Preliminary and Practice Pageant: The Miss Northern States Preliminary Pageant is a preliminary and practice opportunity before the Miss Northern States Regional Finals. All systems are welcome. The Preliminary events are open to the select northern states in the United States and Canada for girls and women of all ages. You will receive valuable feedback from a professional panel of judges. The MNS Preliminary event leads to the Miss Northern States Regional Finals October 10-12, 2025, to crown the 2025-2026 Miss Northern States Queens Court.

If you are looking for a scholarship system, based on a foundation of learning, service, and kindness then Miss Northern States is the system for you. There is no exclusive commitment at MNS, so you can take advantage of other pageant opportunities. At the preliminary event, every contestant is acknowledged with a participation award.

You must reside in one of the following states in the United States to participate: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Also, if you reside in Canada, you are eligible.

The age division is determined by the age of the contestant on the date of the pageant March 1, 2025.

​Required Competition Events

​​

Interview: This is an opportunity to meet the judges and share some information about yourself, why kindness and community service matter to you, and why you want to be crowned a state queen. This is a 4-minute interview. Prepare a brief introduction for the judges to say once you enter the interview room. A bio/resume will be required for the interview and a template will be available. If you participate in other pageant organizations and this is a practice, you may use your one-page bio/resume for the interview. Four printed copies of your bio/resume will be turned in at registration. â€‹

Fun Fashion: This is an opportunity to showcase a high fashion outfit! Work the stage and show off your modeling skills! The walking routine should be fun and upbeat! Two stops and multiple poses are allowed on stage.

Evening Gown: The contestant must wear a floor length gown of choice. The Baby Princess and Tiny Princess Contestants may wear a knee length or cupcake style dress. Each contestant should wear a gown they love to showcase their style, elegance, grace, and poise for this event. There will be set walking pattern for the evening gown event that will be posted ahead of the regional state pageant.

Community Service Project: Community service and giving back is the heart of Miss Northern States! At Miss Northern States the motto is Kindness First Always! We are a sisterhood that works together to accomplish meaningful service projects which create a positive impact. Pick a project you are passionate about and make a donation to your favorite local charity. This can be a volunteer service project, a donation of goods, or a monetary donation. Service is an important part of Miss Northern States, so we will be following your social media journey. You must be representing MNS for your community service and when you post please the hashtags #MissNorthernStates #MNSHeartofService and #KindnessFirstAlways.

Division Required Competition Events

1. Interview 30% / Only the Jr. Princess, Princess, and Preteen State Finalists will participate in the interview. The Baby Princess and Tiny Princess States Finalists will participate in an On-Stage Introduction & Stage Presence worth 30%. The emcee will read the introduction. 

2. Fun Fashion 30%

3. Evening Gown 30%

4. Community Service Project 10%

​​​​​A. Most Photogenic: The photogenic competition can win you the Most Photogenic event. Your most photogenic photo must be a professional headshot and will be a digital submission. The judges will be looking for personality, fashion sense, confidence, beauty, lighting, creativity, and composition. The overall Most Photogenic winner in each age division will be recognized with a special award. If you want to enter multiple photos this counts as an additional entry (max photos 3). Email headshot photos to missnorthernstatespageant@gmail.com by February 23, 2025.

B. Modeling Portfolio:  Are you ready to show us your professional modeling portfolio? The portfolio should include a variety of photos.  The judges will evaluate the portfolio submission to determine the overall winners. The portfolio is a printed submission that will be turned in at registration and the photos need to be in a portfolio binder. will be looking for personality, fashion sense, confidence, beauty, lighting, creativity, and composition. The overall Modeling Portfolio winner in each age division will be recognized with a special award.

C. Casual Wear: This is an on-stage modeling event! Are you ready to showcase your favorite casual wear outfit? Show us your style and modeling in this upbeat and fun event. The overall Casual Wear winner in each age division will be recognized with a special award.

D. Fitness: Who is ready to rock the runway in the fitness competition? Please wear a fun and colorful fitness outfit of choice with tennis shoes. Make this walking routine fun and upbeat!  This event is open to Jr. Princess to Ms. Divisions. The overall Fitness winner in each age division will be recognized with a special award.

​Registration fees for the Optional Events are $30 each plus applicable local tax. Optional events will be registered for separately. Registration link coming soon.

Miss Northern States Preliminary Pageant Crowning

The top five contestants in each age division will be recognized on stage with a special award. The contestant that receives the top score in each division will be crowned as the new MNS Heart of the North State Queen. The State Queen crowned in each age division will receive the custom state crown, sash, plaque, and an award of $100 off the registration fee for the MNS Regional State Final event October 10-12, 2025. There will be special judge side awards. All of the contestants will be recognized on stage with a participation award and a community service acknowledgement.

This is a preliminary event, so there is no commitment with crowning. Miss Northern States would love to have you represent your state title and move forward to compete at the Miss Northern States Regional Finals October 10-12, 2025.

Kindness Matters

The kindness first always philosophy of Miss Northern States matters. The Miss Northern States team will be looking for the contestant that shares kindness and support to others throughout this event. There will be a special award presentation for this contestant.

Kindness Standards

Miss Northern States motto is kindness first always! MNS is a sisterhood that supports each other. Contestants and their families are held to a high standard of morals and ethics. It is expected that all contestants, parents, and guests conduct themselves with kindness first. Disrespectful behavior, negative comments, or bullying will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate dismissal or removal from the pageant venue. If you have a situation, it is important to inform the Owner and Director of Miss Northern States or a MNS team member. At Miss Northern States, we want to see every girl and young woman empowering and supporting each other! Let's cheer each other on and be there for each other when a friend is needed.

Miss Northern States Eligibility Rules

The date of the Miss Northern States Local Pageant determines the competing age for each contestant. You must be a citizen of the United States or Canada, a natural born female, and have an exceptional and upstanding character. A kindness first always attitude is important. Additional qualifying factors for age divisions:

Miss Division Ages 20-27 (never married)

Mrs. Division Ages 21+ (married)

Ms. Division Ages 25+ (an unmarried woman that uses this title)

Judges and Scoring Process

The professional panel of judges change for each local pageant event. Each judge scores separately and the tabulation is processed by the Judges Chairman to determine the overall winner for each age division. In the event, a judge would every personally know a contestant, they will waive their right for judging and an average of the other judges will stand for scoring. The MNS Owner and Director ensures this process has high ethical standards to ensure there is a consistent, fair, and equitable judging process. The judges' comments will be emailed within 7-10 days following the event.

Hair and Makeup Rules

Miss Northern States Pageant is a natural scholarship pageant system opportunity. We encourage all girls to show their natural beauty. It is at your discretion how you choose to style your hair and makeup. It is encouraged for the Junior Division contestants to not use heavy makeup. Light makeup and hair extensions in the younger divisions are allowed.

Dressing Room

Each contestant may have one female chaperone in the dressing room. There are absolutely no males allowed in the dressing room. No photos or videos are allowed in the dressing room. Curling irons, flat irons, or any hot hair tools are only permitted in the restroom areas. Steamers are allowed in the dressing room.

Event Admission

Admission for the MNS Preliminary Pageant can be purchased at the door the day of the event for $20 each. Children age 6 and under are free admission. If you are visiting royalty from any system and are wearing your sash the admission is only $10.  

​

People's Choice

There will be a People's Choice vote which will include the Miss Northern States contestants. The contestant with the overall highest votes will receive a large trophy, state crown, $100 cash scholarship, $100 off the registration to the Miss Northern States Regional Finals Event October 10-12, 2025, and your state sash will be ordered following the event.
